See reproductions of extant examples of clothing. Commerical patterns and a candid evaluation of their sizing, instruction, and fit will be discussed.

Put Up Your Hair: Regency Edition - Julie A. Brown

Learn about hairstyles, hairdressing techniques, and implements from 1800-1835. Topics include children's styles, short hair, and incorporating modern styles. A list of relevant sources will be included and there will be plenty of time for Q & A!

The Right Fit: Early 19th Century Men's Clothing - Tom Shaw

Discover the details about the tailoring and fit of civilian men's clothes during the early 19th century. Extant examples from Mr. Shaw's personal collection are included as part of the presentation.

Peter Twist

Learn about the characteristics of officer's and other ranks' uniforms as well as the process of reconstructing them in the absence of surviving originals.

What did Ohioans wear in the early 1800s? Was it bucksin and moccasins or silk and satin? Get the answer to this and many other questions!

Introduction to 1812 Foodways - Susan Odom

Yesteryear's Essentials 2009 presenter Susan Odom returns to offer a hands-on workshop at this year's conference. Join one of the Midwest's leading experts on historic foodways and learn what it takes to run a kitchein in 1812. This informative workshop will give you the knowledge to refine your cooking at War of 1812 events. Enjoy the fruits of your labor as you sit down to eat your creations at the end of the class.

Past Patterns Empire Short Gown/Cottage Jacket - Saundra Altman

This hands-on workshop will include fitting and assistance in altering Past Patterns 035 Woman's Empire Short Gown/Cottage Jacket dating circa 1796-1820. Participants will be cutting, fitting, and sewing a short gown/cottage jacket with a standing collar. The pattern is a copy of the original in the collections of the Minnesota Historical Society. More details can be found on the registration form.
