In an effort to accommodate all types of schooling into our historic programming, we offer days set aside for homeschool students to enjoy Fort Meigs. This program includes a day of rich activities advancing the social studies curriculum. 

Appropriate for ages 9-14. Limited to 70 People

Program Overview

Morning Session 

10:30am-12:30pm

Students will be divided into groups based on age. A series of educational stations will be set up inside the fort for group rotations.

Topics Discussed

  • Origin of the War of 1812
  • Frontier fort construction
  • Soldier’s living conditions, food 
  • Soldiers uniforms, equipment, weapons, and responsibilities
  • Fighting conditions and formations
  • Artillery science
  • Monuments and memory

Afternoon Session

1:30pm-2:30pm

Students will be divided into three groups of mixed ages to participate in a mock siege with engineers, artillerists, and infantry squaring off in a battle to defend or capture a replica fort. Students will use their problem solving skills, as well as build their teamwork and sportsmanship skills.

*Parents and accompanying small children who are not participating are welcome to explore the property and the museum.
